life update

Wellllllll I never post so I think no one visits, so I don't mind posting something no one will see.  I started work last week and so far it has been orientation and training, and I really like it.  I'm learning a lot about insurance, and I'm slowly but surely socializing haha.  Very slowly.  I'm also eating out a lot, and spending money while doing that but at the same time making lots of money.  I lost my lip gloss and my sunglasses last week.  If I die, my brother gets all my money.  One of my fellow assistant underwriters in training takes the same train as me.  I'm slowly getting fatter.  So far I get to see John every weekend.  I'm doing pretty well; I'm pretty happy!

And since no one visits, the thing I'm happiest about is getting Implanon soon.  I can't wait!

That's right, things are lookin' up for ol' Liz Lemon!

more movies

Instead of buying The Lookout used at Rentertainment, I decided not to buy any more movies until I have a blu-ray player.  This past Friday was Unofficial, and I still didn't go to any bars because of fucking AAA fashion show bullshit, so that college experience is gone.  But it was still fun.

I watched Goyokin for my second ealc466 essay.  Although the movie is from 1969, the dvd release of it is probably remastered because it looks incredible, like it's from the late 80's or early 90's.  The story is that 3 years after an entire fishing village was massacred over gold bars seized by corrupt officials, a ronin who was involved returns to his province [?] to stop it from happening again.  Lead is played by Tatsuya Nakadai What a cool dude.  Acting was quite good.  Nakadai's very good at... showing emotion in his face, I guess.  Just the very picture of tragedy.  The lead woman, a survivor of the first massacre, was also very good at this.  Mm yes, the action was good.  The cinematography was fucking spectacular; I don't think I usually notice it, but in this movie every scene was just really beautiful.  Very good movie, highly recommended.

I also just watched August Rush instead of writing my second ealc466 essay.  This one is about an orphan musical prodigy searching for his parents, who are also musicians.  This movie is all about music, and the soundtrack is fucking fantastic.  Very very cool things done on guitars and stuff.  It was very sweet and very fluffy, and very impossible but somehow I still liked it.  Not much to say, I think if you like it you will really like it and if you don't you will probably hate it.  But it was quite good, and Jonathan Rhys-Meyers is in it so how can you say no.

The Lookout

Man I should just buy this movie because it is that good and Joseph Gordon-Levitt is that beautiful.

one more

I want to watch The Lookout again so baaaaaaaaaaaad now!!  Fuuuuuuuuuuck!!

Okay, so, today was Monday, that means another Japanese Cinema class where we just watch a movie.  Today it was Shunpu-den, or "Story of a Prostitute".  Basically about a prostitute in China during some time that Japan was fighting in China, I don't know history very well.  The woman, Harumi, is very rebellious and kind of doesn't care about anything, but she ends up falling in love with a very straight-laced soldier who is the orderly for some high ranking officer she hates [but is apparently really good in bed].  The movie tries to take some cinematic leaps, I think, in terms of innovative shots and presentation, especially of daydream-type sequences.  Some I thought were neat, but... I don't know.  Seemed kinda weird?  The main character was quite aggravating too -- everytime things didn't go her way she would just scream and wail, and I couldn't tell if there was manipulative intent or not.  Ah, well, I don't know.  The movie was interesting to watch but I wouldn't watch it again.
